The year was 1997, the film was Tomorrow Never Dies, where James Bond stops a war between China and Britain. The film originally had a radically different plot, about an exploding Hong Kong nuclear reactor. But the director, Roger Spottiswoode, told a film critic that they had to steer the film in a different director -- after the production company hired Kissinger as the film's "diplomatic advisor."
